At Jim’s Test & Tag, we test and inspect equipment according to the AS/NZS 3760:2010 standard for the in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment. If your workplace is a construction, mining, or demolition site, we will work to the AS/NZS 3012:2010 standard for electrical installations.

When we work on your site, we test and inspect any number of electrical appliances and equipment that may be in use on your property. After we’ve completed our testing, we attach coloured tags to each device. These test and tag colours match a corresponding interval for testing.

The tags help our technicians (and clients) identify who completed the last test, when the test was completed, and when the next test is due. The tag will also contain information about which standard our technicians worked to (this will vary based on your environment or the nature of your business).

It is helpful when our clients know the meaning behind the test & tag colours, as it helps them understand when their next test is approaching (and why we have chosen this interval).

Test & Tag Colours – Construction/Mining/Demolition

According to the AS/NZS 3012:2010, all of the electrical equipment on construction, demolition, or mining sites needs to be tested every 3 months. This is the maximum recommended interval. To help our technicians easily identify when the item was tested, there are four different coloured tags that can be applied. The test and tag colours for construction/mining/demolition sites are as follows:

  • Red tag: December, January, February
  • Green tag: March, April, May
  • Blue tag: June, July, August
  • Yellow tag: September, October, November

In cases where the testing interval is longer (when our technicians are working according to the AS/NZS 3760:2010 standard), your Jim’s Test & Tag technician will apply a tag with a colour that matches the extended interval. For all other working environments, the test & tag colours are as follows: (please note, there are no set rules for coloured tags outside of construction, demolition, or mining sites. The following colours are only suggestions)

  • Orange: For six monthly intervals (January to June)
  • White: For six monthly intervals ( July to December)
  • Grey: For two yearly tests
  • Burgundy: For testing every 5 years

Our appliance tags come with a Jim’s Test & Tag logo so that you can easily identify the last person who tested your appliances/equipment. It also holds our team accountable for the status of the item.

After we’ve finished testing, you will receive a detailed report. This log book of results will contain details about all the different tests we carry out on each item, as well as similar information to that of the appliance tag. You’ll get a re-test date and a recommended test interval for each item.

In unison with our test and tag colours, we have a free reminder service to help keep track of your testing requirements. Our system will let you know when your next test is due so that you don’t have to rely on our equipment tags to remind you to test your appliances. With our thorough approach to testing and tagging, you can rely on our team to help sure you meet your workplace safety requirements.

If you run a business, you are required by law to provide your employees with a safe environment to work in. This means making sure all of your electrical devices are safe to use. With regular testing and tagging, you will minimise the chance of an accident at your workplace.
