Christmas is just around the corner. If you’re like us and you always leave your shopping to the last minute, we have some safety tips for you.
It’s important to keep up to date with products that have been recalled, especially when you’re planning on gifting them to someone else. Most of the high-risk products are electrical goods and appliances. If they are faulty, there is usually a danger of fire or electrical shock.
At Jim’s Test & Tag, we are electrical testing and tagging experts. To help you stay on top of electrical safety this holiday season, we’ve put together a list of electrical product recalls. Check out the list below and head to the Product Safety website for more information.
Electrical products that have been recalled
Stay up to date with safety recalls by subscribing to alerts with Product Recalls NZ. You can view all categories of recall on their website, but today we are focusing on our area of expertise.
Yamaha EF2000iS Portable Generator
This product was recalled on the 26th of November, 2019. This particular item comes under the fire safety category — another area we are very passionate about. The hazard involves a fuel tank manufacturing fault that could lead to a leak, and subsequently, a fire. If you have purchased this product, you can contact the manufacturer for a free fuel tank replacement.
Venco Direct Drive Pottery Wheel Foot Pedal
Did you find the perfect gift for your pottery loving pal? Don’t worry, although this product has a fault, you can contact the manufacturer to arrange a repair. There is a fault that could cause live wires to come in contact with the foot pedal and give the user an electrical shock.
Cotton On Power Bank
This popular product was recalled earlier in the year, but we thought we should include it for those savvy shoppers who have bought their gifts in advance. This product does not comply with electrical safety standards and it could overheat. This could lead to fire and/or electrical shock. Stop using this item immediately and return it for a refund.
Carrier Fan-Coil Units
This is an important one to note for those who are maintaining their air conditioners over Christmas. This unit has an issue that means its plastic casing does not meet safety standards. The casing of the unit’s electrical box does not meet fire containment standards. You can arrange a new casing installation by contacting the installer or distributor.
Electric Foot Warmer
Got a gift for someone that always has cold feet? Unfortunately a fault was found in this foot heater which can cause the USB cable or heating pad to overheat. This could cause a burn to someone using it or result in a fire.
