ELECTRICAL SAFETY REGULATIONS

As an organisation, you are required to provide a safe working environment for your employees. We work to a national safety standard that ensures the management of hazards in the workplace. By adhering to this standard, we can minimise risk in your workplace and ensure compliance with local legislation.

We assess equipment according to the AS/NZS 3760 standard for the in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment. The nature and frequency of the tests we conduct are dictated by the type of equipment that is in use and the environment where it is used. Take a look at our testing and tagging page for more information.

We test a range of equipment. As a general rule of thumb, any appliance that plugs in or connects to power needs to be tested. Note: for equipment that is supplied by cord set, both the cord set and equipment need to be tested and tagged separately. We test all electrical appliances that are or have been:

  • in use for the first time
  • already in use
  • has been serviced or recently repaired
  • is returning to service after a second-hand sale
  • is available for hire

For electrical safety regulations on construction and demolition sites, our technicians refer to the AS/NZS 3012 standard for electrical installations.

WHY IS ELECTRICAL SAFETY TESTING IMPORTANT?

Every year, hundreds of New Zealanders are injured at work. You can prevent unnecessary harm in your business by investing in regular maintenance. The best way to stop injury at work is with proactivity. By identifying faulty equipment before an accident occurs, our talented team members will help you remove risk from your place of work.

Electrical hazards can often hide in plain sight. Everyday appliances like microwaves, power boards, and portable heaters can be neglected and remain untested for a long period of time. If your employees are using this equipment every day, you have a duty to ensure their safety. Don’t let a normal day at work turn into a tragedy.

Electrical risk assessment not only reduces the chances of electrical shock in the workplace – it also reduces the chance of fire. Electrical fires can start from sparks or overheating in faulty appliances. Ask our technicians to check your equipment and maintain your fire protection system.
